Wow! It’s hard to believe that it’s March already! Fourth graders are focusing on this Lenten season by completing different reflective assignments and activities. Students are also working on activities that focus on the Beatitudes. As this season progresses, we remember that Jesus is our greatest gift.
Students are reading the novel By the Great Horn Spoon! by Sid Fleischman. They are having a good time learning about the adventures of Jack Flagg and Praiseworthy in the gold fields of California. This novel ties into our Social Studies curriculum by covering the CA Gold Rush of 1849. After reading this novel, the students will work collaboratively with a small group to create a skit/presentation of the chapters assigned to their group. Students will be presenting their skits to the rest of the class later this month.
In Science, students are learning about the different layers of Earth and plate tectonics. They were able to dissect a chicken egg and compare the layers of the egg with the layers of the Earth. I think what they most took from the experiment was that the egg was ‘stinky’.
Fourth graders are working hard in Math as well. We are covering all of the state and common core standards. At this time, the class is focusing on fractions. We are learning how to add and subtract mixed numbers with regrouping and we are multiplying fractions times a whole number.
Have a great Lenten season and God Bless!
